AMI Certification
What it is, what it takes, and how the certificate is issued
Two MCPC courses carry AMI certification:
1. the AMI MDDA Introductory Course, and
2. the AMI MDDA Practitioners Certification Course.
This page explains how that works, so you know what you’re signing up for before you start.
What AMI certification is
A credential that travels
The Association Montessori Internationale is the organization Maria Montessori founded to protect and carry forward her work. It sets the standards for Montessori training worldwide, and it has done so for close to a century.
An AMI certificate says the training you completed met those standards, verified by a trainer. It isn’t specific to one employer, one country, or one setting. It’s recognised worldwide.
Who it matters to
If you already work in Montessori, this is the same body that certified your training, applied to the other end of life.
If you work as a care partner in dementia, disability, or aging care, it’s a credential your colleagues and employers can look up and recognise, whichever setting you move to next.
You don’t need either background to enroll.
Both courses are open to anyone caring for an adult living with dementia, disability, or the changes that come with aging, and everyone who completes one receives the AMI Certificate.

You can take the MDDA Introductory Course on its own.
It’s also the only route into the MDDA Practitioners Certification Course.
How the process works
The route to the AMI certificate is different for each course.
AMI MDDA Introductory Course
1. You enroll, and you’re registered with AMI
Registration happens when your course begins.
2. You work through the course at your own pace over 12 weeks.
Twelve hours of material, online, on your own schedule. You'll have 12 weeks from enrollment to complete all course requirements, including passing the final quiz.
Example: If you start in September and finish in November, your certificates will be issued in December.
3. You pass the final quiz
The course ends with a final quiz. You can retake it as needed to reach a score of 80 percent within your 12-week enrollment window.
4. Both certificates are issued
You receive the MCPC Certificate of Completion, which records your 12 CEU credits, and the AMI MDDA certificate issued by AMI.
Who issues the certificate?
Offered by MCPC. Certificate issued through AMI; 12 CEU hours issued by MCPC.
AMI MDDA Practitioners Certification Course
1. You apply, and your prerequisite is verified
An AMI MDDA Introductory Course certificate is required. Applications are reviewed within 48 hours.
2. You enroll, and you’re registered with AMI
Registration happens when the cohort begins, the same as the Introductory Course.
3. You complete the coursework
Modules, assignments, case studies, and a final presentation, delivered over six months with six live sessions.
4. An AMI Trainer reviews your work
An AMI Trainer teaches every live session and reviews every submission.
5. Both certificates are issued
You receive the MCPC Certificate of Completion and the AMI MDDA certificate. One review releases both. Certificates are typically issued within two weeks of meeting all course requirements.
Who issues the certificate?
AMI will issue your certificate approximately 3 weeks following the completion of the course.
After either course:
The Collaborative, an ongoing community of support and collaboration, welcomes everyone who completes an AMI MDDA course.
